Matthew is the project finance director for Metka EGN, a solar developer and EPC contractor that is now the Renewables Business Unit of Mytilineos S.A., an Athens-listed energy and industrial conglomerate. He joined Metka EGN in 2018 to cover structuring and financing of projects within the development team. Metka EGN develops and builds utility-scale solar PV, storage and hybrid projects, with almost 2 GW completed and activities in 22 countries globally. Metka EGN’s core markets for project development are Iberia, Italy, UK, Mexico, Chile, Korea and Australia.
Prior to joining Metka EGN, Matthew worked in power and infrastructure financing in London since 2007, at Mizuho, BNP Paribas, CBA and several advisory firms, working on renewables, conventional power and infrastructure projects in the UK, continental Europe and the Middle East. Matthew studied Physics at UWA in Perth, did a PhD in Materials Engineering at UNSW in Sydney and worked as a postdoc in engineering at Cambridge.
Markets across the continent were booming before the crisis with many GW of projects being developed without subsidies. We have also seen firm commitments to renewables from governments in Italy, Portugal and Ireland though the support mechanisms differ and the UK committed to Net-Zero ahead of its scheduled hosting of the COP summit. This session will update the audience on what happens now:
